Many State 48 FC teams competed in the Phoenix Cup Tournament this past weekend. Some highlights included the S48 FC 2008 Boys Black team defeating a top team from Texas 1-0 in a terrific team performance. The goal came on a fine technical combination play featuring Nathan Faulconer, Jaxon Walker and Jacob van Buskirk, who skillfully finished the opportunity to give the team the win. The S48 FC 2007 Boys Black team posted an impressive 4-0 win in their final match, with Coach Matt Marek commenting on the outstanding play of Elias Curiel, Gabriel Romero and Reagan Mueller. The S48 FC 2014 Boys Black team played up a level in the tournament, with Coach Alex Aguilar remarking that the effort was excellent in every match, and that the team, who left everything on the field, continues to progress and develop in impressive fashion. Goalkeeper Nicolas Escalante made some great saves over the course of the weekend, while Connor McGirk, Alexander Zambrano and William Hendershot were outstanding as well. The S48 FC 2010 Black team won their opening match with a commanding performance, controlling possession and recording a convincing 3-0 victory. Goalkeepers Orlando Navarro and Giovanni Hernandez shared the shutout, while Malaki Jahries (2 goals) and Gavin Sheesley (1 goal) tallied for S48 FC. Coach Keith Sampson also had high praise for the strong performances of Elena Beaulieu, Reed Mueller and Dorian Lopez. The S48 FC 2013 Boys Black team had an excellent tournament showing, coming away with 2 solid victories – Coach Rogelio Aragon is very proud of all the hard work that the team has put in over the course of the season. The fine defensive effort was led by outstanding goalkeeper Sebastian Gonzalez, with Vincent Calderon and Khristopher Aragon formidable in anchoring the backline. The control of the midfield from Adrian Guzman, Stanley Dovico and Gavin Comer was exceptional, while the potent attack was led by Enzo Villafana and Alexis Lugo. Donovan Siercke scored 2 goals, while Alexis, Khristopher, Adrian and Enzo each scored 1 goal. In League play, the S48 FC Verrado 2015 / 2016 Boys Black won their match in dominating fashion by the scoreline of 16-1. Coach Alessio Altomare mentioned the high quality of the team’s performance, where many players got on the scoreboard, including Luis with 4 goals, Connor, Enzo & Giancarlo with 3 goals each, Dom scoring 2 goals and Josh adding 1 goal.
