State 48 FC Weekly Update – 10/16

The State 48 FC 2015 Copper team played in the Copa Futuro Tournament and won the championship! Coach Moises Perez said “The matches were very intense and competitive, especially the Championship game, which we won 3-2. The team was outstanding throughout the tournament, where every single player was pushing and working hard – I am very proud of this team!”

The State 48 FC 2017 Black team played in the Gold bracket of the Scottsdale Cup Tournament and recorded some fine performances. Coach Irwin Moreno said “Overall the team is looking strong – the hard work they have been putting in is showing up in the games. Seven of the eight players on our team scored goals this weekend!”

The State 48 FC 2017 White team played in 2 tournaments at once and went undefeated in five matches. Coach Rogelio Aragon said “There was great team balance with the scoring throughout both tournaments, and all eight of our players scored. Gyzer Aragon was a tough, non-stop energy machine, while Diego Nava & Mateo Villafana had superb attacking presence. Jhovanny Soledad, Adan Molina & AJ Cordova displayed great midfield control, while Moy Perez & Cristian Calderon were unbeatable on the defensive end. We are truly impressed with the growth, passion and hard work this group puts into every practice & game!”

The State 48 FC 2013 Black team had a good Scottsdale Cup Tournament against some top ranked teams in the state, going an impressive 1-1-1. Coach Rogelio Aragon reported “We were pushed to our limits but responded extremely well to the high caliber competition – we were a couple of goals away from making it to the final. Ricardo Lemus & Khristopher Aragon scored some excellent goals when we needed them most. Nathaniel Zavala & Adrian Guzman did a stellar job controlling the midfield and recovering possession, while Donovan Siercke was outstanding in all areas. Our defensive effort, which was led by Carlos Medina, Vincent Calderon, Sebastian Gutierrez & goalkeeper Angel Barajas was truly first class.”

The State 48 FC 2015 / 2016 Boys Black (Verrado) team competed in the Scottsdale Cup Tournament as well. Coach Alessio Altomare noted the excellent performances of some players and remarked “Adrian Levya played an amazing tournament. He always had his head up and played with plenty of confidence against strong opponents. Connor Candelario was indefatigable with his field coverage and is becoming more and more comfortable with his skill set. Lastly, Enzo Altomare had some hard 1v1 duels in the middle of the field with older and physically stronger players. He fought with courage – and his soccer IQ often had him coming out on top!”

The State 48 FC 2007 Boys Black team recorded some fine performances as they competed in the Arsenal Challenge Tournament. Coach Matt Marek reported “The team went 1-1-1, losing our first game of the season against a very strong opponent. Kudos to Aiden Eppley for his big presence in the back and never losing a header. Elias Curiel and Matthew Adono tallied goals over the weekend, scoring two goals each – Matthew is averaging 1 goal per game and has scored in 4 straight games!”

The State 48 FC 2008 Boys White team also played in the Arsenal Challenge Tournament. Coach Donovan Graydon said “I am very proud of the boys – we displayed a lot of growth as a team. Landon Whisman had a two goal performance in our first game and Xavier Noriega recorded his first goal of the season. Great performances by Deigo Campos and Sean Venesky, who scored a goal each on their debuts! Juan Maans was our ‘Player of the Match’ for our first game as he was the best player on the field. Sebastian Cano, Angel Garcia and Richard Cervantes Goriestieta also played very well, leaving it all on the field.”

Coach Cassandra Steel of the State 48 FC 2013 / 2014 Girls (Verrado) team said “We had some great play in our challenging match, with two goals being scored by our newest player Sofia Ortiz! Goalkeeper Amelia Craig had some amazing stops in goal, to include an incredible penalty kick save! The girls showed immense improvement – the highlight was our excellent passing game overall.”Congratulations to all of our State 48 FC players and coaches for their superb efforts – we are very proud of you!
