State 48 FC Weekly Update – 11/14

Coach Alessio Altomare said “Playing in the top bracket, the State 48 FC 2015 Elite team won the Championship of the Kick for the Cure Tournament. The final match was special – down 1-3 at halftime against an aggressive and talented opponent, we changed our team shape and tied the game 3-3. The match went to penalty kicks – our goalkeeper, Wyatt Bridge, ended the tense shootout by scoring his penalty kick and then saved the last one! The whole team showed maturity and development in playing these intense and nerve-racking games. In addition to our excellent GK Wyatt Bridge, the standouts were Captain Juan Chavez and Luis Diaz, who built a wall defensively; Luis also scored two first-class free kicks. I am very proud of every player for their tremendous effort!”

The State 48 FC 2016 Boys Gray (Avondale) team won the Kick for the Cure Tournament Championship! Coach Hector Roman said “Striker Jesus ‘Chikitin’ dominated, scoring 5 out of 7 goals that helped secure our victory. I also would like to recognize goalkeeper Jackson Sanchez, who was excellent when we needed him the most. Captains Hollis Humphrey and Gabriel Roman represented our team well, getting all their teammates ready and prepared for whatever came our way – very proud of this group!”

Coach Rogelio Aragon said “The State 48 Sporting FC U13 UPSL team turned in an extraordinary performance in our final game of the UPSL Academy league season. We faced a very skilled and determined opponent who took an early 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the match. We regrouped immediately – Liliana Rivera got us back into the game with a rocket of a goal from a well-executed corner kick play from Ricardo Lemus and Jacob Sahagun. Dani Gonzalez assisted on the next 2 goals, scored by Abraham Loera and Ricardo Lemus. Khristopher Aragon scored a beautiful free kick to make the score 4-1, then Ricardo Lemus scored again to make the final score 5-2. Our excellent defense was led by Ismael Alcala, Eli Martinez, Daniel Olmeda, Nathan Torres and Liliana Rivera. Two players that really changed the dynamic of the game in the midfield through their intensity, hustle and tenacity were Gavin Hansen and Adrian Guzman, who both showed tremendous effort and leadership on the field. I am very proud of everyone’s teamwork, determination and toughness.”

The State 48 FC 2016 White (Avondale) team participated in the Kick for the Cure Tournament this past weekend. Coach Rudy Urquiza reported “The team played each game with heart, tenacity and intelligence – we continue to grow in synergy and individually. Our ‘Player of the Tournament’ was newcomer Dominic Howard. This young man is a machine on defense, showing great speed, strength and skill. It’s his first year playing competitive soccer, and he has made the transition smoothly. It goes to show that playing in the streets and in school during recess is the greatest teacher of all.”

Coach Juan Pablo Mora Arviso said “The State 48 2012 Girls Black (Avondale) team had another great league game this Saturday. The girls moved well without the ball, while the passing and communication was very good also. We won the game 5-1; we are now on a three-game winning streak.”

Coach Javier Frausto said “The State 48 FC 2011 Boys Black (Avondale) team continued our impressive run with an 8-0 victory in league play. The boys established themselves as the dominant team on the pitch immediately – they exploited the opposing defense by having 7 players score the 8 goals; goals were scored by Jayden Rosales, Gabriel Salazar, Victor Sandoval, Chris Faith, Scott Nguyen, Jacen Roman and Meziah Arellano. Once again, a major salute to our defensive corps of Fernando Escobar, Benji Myrhe, Parker Consalvo, Jacen Roman and goalkeeper Elliot Denk for securing another shut out. The teamwork, unselfish play and sportsmanship stands out in every match. That puts our league record at 3-0, with 16 goals scored while being the only team with zero goals allowed thus far.”

Coach Donovan Graydon said “The State 48 FC 2015 / 2016 Black (Laveen) team has officially wrapped up its first season as a new club team. I could not be prouder of the progress these kids have made. Outstanding performances from Angel De La Rosa, Elijah Dominguez, Hugo Walker and Alonso “Joseph” Duarte. This team is just getting started, and I can’t wait to see how we perform in our first tournament. Let’s go South Side!”

Coach Irwin Moreno said “The State 48 FC 2017 Black (Avondale) team played in the Kick for the Cure Tournament over the weekend. We came up just shy of advancing to the championship game while placing 2nd in our bracket. The team grew in confidence as the tournament progressed – we moved around the ball very well as a team and scored 17 goals in the three games we played. Every single player on the team contributed and had an impact throughout the tournament.”

The State 48 FC 2013 / 2014 Girls (Verrado) team played a competitive set of games in the Kick for the Cure Tournament. Coach Brian Craig said “These girls always play stout defense and continue to advance the ball up the field with good build up play. The goal of the weekend came on Saturday night with a marvelous top bin shot from well outside of the box by our winger Savannah Ornelas. We’re proud that these girls are gaining more and more of the overall share of possession in each match, while holding opponents to very few scoring opportunities.”

Coach Rogelio Aragon said “The State 48 FC 2013 Black (Avondale) team won our league match 5-1 in a back and forth, high intensity game. We applied great pressure throughout the whole game, led by the outstanding defensive group that includes Dani Olmeda, Max Lara, Kovin Munoz, Julian Rosales, Liliana Rivera and goalkeeper Carlos Medina. Our excellent midfield was led by Adrian Guzman, Alex Trejo, Tony Gil, Alexis Lugo and Kaze Mazzuca. Ricardo Lemus scored a Hat Trick of goals, while Khristopher Aragon and William Rivera also tallied. I am proud of our team for their dedication, commitment and hard work!”

Congratulations to all our State 48 FC players and coaches – we are very proud of you!
