Coach Moises Perez said “The State 48 FC 2015 Copper team played in the Phoenix Cup Tournament this weekend with an amazing outcome – we went undefeated and won the tournament Championship! Every match was close, but we defended extremely well and showed our class in the attacking phase by scoring some great goals. Game winning goals were scored by AJ Nava, Kevin Solis and Marcos Sanchez. Other standout players included striker Jasiah Roman; midfielders Shalon Kappler and Mateo Giron; defenders Marian Garcia and Max Aguero as well as outstanding goalkeeper Rigoberto Guerrero, who saved a penalty kick in the exciting championship match that we won 1-0! A great performance from everyone on the team – I am very proud of them!”
Coach Eddie Vasquez said “The State 48 FC 2013 Boys White played in the Copper State Challenge Tournament in the Gold bracket. Our performance was tremendous as we won the tournament Championship! The team played great soccer and were deserving winners of the title – excellent work from the entire team.”
The State 48 FC Boys Black (North) team played in the Phoenix Cup Tournament, winning their bracket with a 3-0 record before losing in the Championship match 0-1. The team played very well throughout the weekend, conceding only one goal the entire tournament. Standouts Jace Barlow and Moses Baca led the way on defense, while Trevor Scriven was tremendous in the midfield with his relentless transitional play. The attack was led by skillful winger Aaden Encinas, who scored two game winning goals and provided an assist for the game winning goal in another match. The entire team was outstanding with their relentless commitment to excellence.
Coach Rudy Urquiza reported “The State 48 FC 2016 White team won 2-1 in a hard-fought match, with both teams competing until the very end. A wonder strike from Adam Urquiza, who continues to perform at a high level, was the offensive highlight. Abel Clothier, one of our newest players, was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his excellent overall performance.”
State 48 FC 2010 Boys Black (El Mirage) Coach Sean Venesky said “We participated in the Phoenix Cup Tournament over the weekend – we were resilient, relentless and ready! Our boys brought intensity, grit and teamwork to every match, finishing the tournament unbeaten. In the first game, the team came roaring back from an 0-2 deficit. Diego Campos set up Sean Venesky Jr. to cut the deficit (1-2), and SJ sealed the comeback with a cheeky chip over the goalie to tie it up. In the second game, Diego buried a penalty to give us the lead, then Juan Maans’ free kick found Sebastian Cano for a powerful header. After a brilliant save by the opposing keeper, Joseph was right there for the rebound, putting it away for the 2-0 win. The third match was a defensive battle that ended in a 0-0 draw. I am very proud of this group – an unbeaten run, big-time plays, and plenty of heart – this tournament proved that we’re ready for anything!”
Congratulations to all our State 48 FC players and coaches – we are very proud of you!
