State 48 FC Weekly Update – 9/17

The State 48 FC 2008 Boys Black (North) team had an excellent weekend, winning the RSL Cactus Kickoff Tournament Championship. They competed in the highest level bracket and defeated teams from the MLS Next and EA platforms in convincing fashion, scoring 10 goals while allowing only 1, including a decisive 3-0 win in the tournament final. The powerful attack was led by Diego Armetta (3 goals), Riggs Beck (2 goals), Aaden Encinas (2 goals) while Junior de la Rosa, Tavin Tomlinson and Finals MVP Trevor Scriven added a goal each. The remarkable defensive effort was led by the outstanding central duo of Jace Barlow and Moses Baca, while Dominic Bartinelli, CJ Arenas, Julian Perez and Ethan Crabtree all played well. GK Joseph Murillo was in top form, registering shutout wins in 3 of the 4 matches played. Strong contributions from Gavin Volckmann, Justin Lee, Jacob van Buskirk, Billy Denman and Austin Scriven were also big factors in the team’s tremendous performance.

The State 48 FC 2016 Black (Verrado) team also won the RSL Cactus Kickoff Tournament Championship, posting 2 shutouts while scoring an impressive 25 goals, and every player recorded at least 1 goal. Coach James Howard said that the entire team has made great strides and that each player made valuable contributions.

Coach Saul Bolanos said that the State 48 FC 2015 White (Verrado) team β€œdid an amazing job” this weekend, taking 1st Place in their bracket and advancing to the championship match. He was effusive with his praise, and added β€œThe kids left it all out there. The entire team played as one and performed at a high level. The defense was led by Ryker Craig, while Wesley Larson, Kaiden Adams, Xavi Cardoza and Bennett Crawford also played extremely well.”

Coach Alessio Altomare and his State 48 FC 2015 / 2016 Boys Black (Verrado) team also were Finalists in the RSL Cactus Kickoff Tournament. Coach Alessio said β€œIt was another great performance from our team, who were playing in a top bracket.” Enzo Altomare scored 2 goals in the semi-final and added another in the championship final; Isaac Villavicencio scored the all important game winning goal in the semi-final match, and Jayden Gonzalez was instrumental with his fine performance throughout the tournament as well.

Coach Liz Perez reports that the State 48 FC 2010 Girls Black team secured another triumph, winning a close match 3-2 to continue their exciting start to the season. The team was led by the excellent play of Captain Maya Martinez, who assisted on 2 of the goals. Goalkeepers Lyla Perez and Lyla Gross also played very well, recording multiple fine saves to preserve the victory.

The Moreno brothers were at it again this past weekend with more outstanding results. Coach Ivan Moreno’s State 48 FC 2016 Black team took 1st Place in the DC League Championship, emerging victorious in an exciting final and winning on penalties, where each player converted their penalty kick with success. Irwin Moreno and his 2017 Black team were crowned DC League Champions as well, with Irwin reporting that his team has now won two tournaments in a row!

Coach Javier Frausto of the State 48 FC 2011 Boys lack team said β€œThe boys worked hard during the week and it paid dividends as we secured a fine 4-2 win this past Saturday. I would like to spotlight Jayden Rosales, who is our attacking midfielder. Jayden was appointed captain prior to our match due to his focus, discipline and supportive attitude during practice. Jayden responded to being named captain by scoring 3 goals and assisting on the 4th goal. A major highlight of the match was Jayden scoring an β€œOlympic Goal” to seal the game! I salute this young man, who personifies leading by example with respect and commitment. Great job team, let’s keep the momentum going!”

The State 48 FC Boys Black (South) team traveled to Tucson for their first game in league play. Coach Dante Johnson reported that Axel Almonte had 3 assists while Ricky De La Rosa scored 2 fine goals in the dominating 7-2 victory. Goalkeeper Luis Fraire made two crucial saves and kept the defense organized throughout the match. The β€˜Player of the Match’ award goes to birthday boy Stryker Johnson, who pushed the team forward and scored 5 goals from his attacking midfield position.

The State 48 FC 2013 Boys Black team extended their record to a perfect 2-0 on the season. Coach Phil DoVico said β€œAngel Barajas Hernandez posted his second clean sheet between the sticks. Alex Trejo recorded an impressive hat trick to lead the scoring while Ricardo Lemus added two more. Nathaniel Zavala got on the score sheet this week with one goal, and Gavin Comer continued to play consistently on the left side of the defense. Other notable performances came from Stanley DoVico (3 assists), Carlos Medina and Lily Rivera, who controlled the defensive effort, allowing only one shot on goal. Our β€˜Player of the Match’ was Adrian Guzman, who celebrated his 11th birthday and played an outstanding role in controlling and distributing the ball from his position in the center of the midfield. I am so proud of the team for sticking to the game plan and not letting the opposition deter us from the style of play that we have embraced.”

The State 48 FC 2013 / 2014 Boys (Verrado) team registered a decisive 5-2 victory, with striker Adrian Solorzano scoring an impressive 4 goals and Matthew Locke scoring another with an excellent free kick. Coach Cisco Flores added that team Captain Harper Villareal is an outstanding performer both on the field and in the classroom, where he has a perfect attendance record as well as straight β€˜A’s!

Coach Cassandra Steele said that her State 48 FC 2013 / 2014 Girls (Verrado) team played very well, highlighting the contributions of Tatum Briese and Amelia Craig, while Nickolle Velasco scored a fine goal in the strong effort.

Coach Ray Gonzalez was very proud of the effort from his State 48 FC 2008 Black Girls team. Coach Ray highlighted the performance of defenders Gabby Robles, Karla Villalpando, Allyson Rangel and Melanie Ruvalcaba, who were very well organized and tenacious throughout the match. Also receiving special mention were Ania Madrigal, Lilah Alonso and β€˜Player of the Match’ Bernice Hernandez, who was outstanding in the goal, making several tremendous saves during the game.

Coach Rogelio Aragon said that the State 48 FC 2017 White team was outstanding over the weekend, remarking β€œGreat collective passing & movement by the entire team in an impressive showing. Mateo Villafana & Adan Molina were incredible with their outstanding work rate; Gyzer Aragon scored an amazing 5 goals; Jhovanny Soledad, Diego Nava & Moy Perez had 2 goals each, while Cristian Calderon added 1 goal with to go along with his tremendous defensive effort.”

In other news, State 48 FC 2007 Girls Black (Verrado) standout Selene Martinez has become the first female American football kicker in history for her Youngker High School team. Incredible accomplishment, Selene! We hope you have a wonderful experience!
