The State 48 FC 2016 Boys Elite (Verrado) team won the Phoenix Rising Cup this past weekend. Coach Alessio Altomare said “Great first impression in our opening tournament of the season. Joshua Madrigal was an outstanding playmaker; Kade Brannon is playing some of his best soccer ever and Sergio Barranco showed bright moments with his immense talent. The entire team looked sharp and played excellent soccer – very proud of the group!”
The State 48 FC 2007 / 2008 Boys Black (North) team took 2nd Place in the Phoenix Rising Cup. The team finished with a 2-1 record, with an outstanding 6-0 victory in their final match. Leading scorers for the tournament were winger Nathan Faulconer, who scored 4 goals (to include an impressive hat trick in the last match) while Tri-Captain Gavin Volckmann added 3 goals. The excellent defense was led by Tri-Captain Jace Barlow, Tristan Costanzo, Ethan Crabtree, Dominic Bartinelli, Nico Blas and Goalkeeper Ace Campos.
Coach Ivan Moreno said “The State 48 FC 2016 Black (Avondale) team had an outstanding Phoenix Rising Cup tournament. We played in the Gold Bracket, where there is very little room for error. One loss kept us away from the championship game but the players displayed amazing soccer. Jael Diaz is becoming the commander in chief as our central midfielder, controlling the pace of the game. Luca Valenzuela scored 2 goals in our last game; he was the only player to score a double in a single game. Guillermo Armenta stepped up to play multiple positions at a very high level. All in all, it was a great team effort. The coaching staff is excited to see the season unfold!”
