Coach Elvin Moreno said “What a weekend for State 48 FC Buckeye 2014 / 2015! Boys Black team. The boys finished as Finalists at the Tuzos Challenge Tournament, scoring an incredible 26 goals while allowing only 7 goals throughout the tournament. Although we came up short in the championship game, I couldn’t be prouder of the way this team fought and competed. The heat was tough, but the boys continued to battle, stayed together and never gave up. That fight and determination is something we will build on moving forward. Some noteworthy performances from the weekend include: Eli Moreno with 6 goals and 4 assists; Adan Garcia with 3 goals while stepping up and playing multiple positions for the team; Goalkeeper RJ Lopez, who came up huge in the championship match, stopping 3 penalties in the PK shootout – incredible performance! Most importantly, this was a TEAM effort. Every player contributed, battled and represented State 48 FC in outstanding fashion.”
Coach David Herrera said “The State 48 FC Verrado 2019 / 2020 White team played some excellent soccer this weekend in the Tuzos Challenge Tournament, really showcasing what they have been learning. We finished as Finalists by playing very well throughout the tournament – I am very proud of their intensity and the way they always look for a way forward. Scarlett Allen scored her first goal, while Chris Delgado and Austin Flume carried the team with their tremendous play.”
The State 48 FC Avondale 2010 / 2011 Boys Black team opened league play with a convincing 4-2 victory. The impressive Uri Medina scored 2 goals while Nikolay Mitiev and Nathan Garcia contributed a goal each. Captains Scott Nguyen and Jayden Rosales controlled the midfield while the defensive effort was led by Benji Myhre and Parker Consalvo. The ‘Player of the Match’ award went to Meziah Arellano for his excellent efforts. Overall, a strong performance from every player on the team.
Coach Armando Juarez said “The State 48 FC Northwest 2019 / 2020 Boys Black team competed in the Tuzos Challenge Tournament, finishing as Finalists. Every single one of our kids played their hearts out in our first tournament of the year, and we couldn’t be more proud of our group. Kudos to Lucas Juarez (7 goals), Chace Rose (3 goals), Camden Simpson (2 goals), Matteo Mancaruso and Calvin Grado (1 goal each) – well done team!”
Coach Sean Venesky said “The State 48 FC Northwest 2009 / 2010 Boys Black team traveled to Flagstaff this weekend for the OSI Champions Cup, stepping up to compete in the U18 Gold Bracket and emerged as Finalists. We opened with back-to-back 0–0 draws after two physical, hard-fought matches with plenty of opportunities. Everything came down to our final match. Bayron Duarte gave us a 1–0 lead, putting us in position to bring home the championship. We continued creating chances, but our opponents made multiple goal-line saves, including an incredible diving header to deny what looked like a sure goal. We ended up conceding 2 goals and, although it wasn’t the ending we wanted, we stepped up an age group, posted two clean sheets, and battled for a championship until the final whistle. Very proud of this group!”
Coach David Herrera said “The State 48 FC 2019 / 2020 Boys Black team played in the Tuzos Challenge Tournament, playing phenomenal soccer throughout the weekend against some excellent competition. Goliath Herrera was outstanding, scoring 10 goals in the tournament. Very pleased with the entire team!”
Coach Frank Alongi said “The State 48 FC Verrado 2018 / 2019 Girls Black team competed in the Tuzos Challenge Tournament over the weekend. After a tough first game, the girls bounced back to win the second match in penalty kicks and were victorious in the third game by the scoreline of 3-1 as we finished as deserving Finalists! Bentley Bottoms led the way with 3 goals on the weekend – great job team!”
Coach Roberto Garcia said “The State 48 FC Northwest 2016 / 2017 White team went to Flagstaff for the OSI Champions Cup. Every player showed tremendous character, perseverance, stayed positive and supported each other. Overall it was an excellent learning experience as we continue developing strong habits on and off the field.”
