Exclusive State 48 FC Weekly Update 3/14

It was a busy weekend for State 48 FC teams. On Saturday afternoon, S48 FC conducted a free clinic for soccer players of all ages and ability levels at Gateway Park in El Mirage. The clinic was a great success as we had an excellent turnout – the kids, families and coaches who participated all had a tremendous experience. The S48 FC (Verrado) 15/16 Black team won the Inferno Tournament in impressive fashion, scoring an incredible 27 goals in 3 matches. Connor Candelario, who was singled out by the coaching staff for playing beautifully in possession and transition, was named β€˜Player of the Tournament’ for his outstanding performance. Enzo Altomare, Joshua Madrigal and Giancarlo Nageia scored 6 goals each, while Luis Diaz scored 5 goals and Dominic Johnson scored 4 goals. Congratulations to the boys for their amazing performance! The S48 FC 2014 Boys Black team finished in 2nd place at the Inferno Tournament, playing against some quality opposition. Alexander Zambrano and Connor McGirk were excellent in defense, as was goalkeeper Nicolas Escalante, who had many key saves. Great possession and teamwork in the midfield from Ezekiel Aguilar, William Hendershot, Axel Cantu, Giovani Adame and Rapha Reyes, while striker Alexander Gonzalez scored a number of excellent goals to keep the team in the hunt for the title. The S48 FC 2016 Boys Black competed in the Legends Cup tournament and played against some very good teams – Coach Rosie Mendez commented on the hustle and determination that the team exhibited while going undefeated in the competition. The highlight of the weekend was an impressive 9-4 victory where every player on the team scored. The S48 2008 Boys White team recorded an excellent 3-1 victory in their final league match of the season. Coach Raul de la Rosa noted the strong performances from Erick Rosas (2 goals), Gaby Rivera controlling the action in midfield with Justin Pena and GK Jacob Martin leading the fine defensive effort. The S48 2008 Boys Black (North) team concluded their league season as well, recording a victory (3-1) and a draw (0-0) in two matches on Saturday. Goals were scored by Luke Williams (who hit a thunderbolt from an outstanding pass by Gavin Volckmann), Aaron Apodaca on a brilliant header (from an excellent corner kick delivery by Diego Armetta) and Nanda Ankem, who followed up a powerful shot from Junior de la Rosa that rebounded off the goalpost. The defense performed at a high level, with goalkeeper Joseph Murillo & defenders Trey Gonzalez, Sergio Arpino, Dominic Bartinelli and Ethan Crabtree responsible for containing the opposition attack. Midfielder Trevor Scriven was again outstanding with his technical control, decision making and range of passing that were on display in both matches. S48 FC would also like to recognize the outstanding achievements of 2008 player Mark de Leon Hill, who is currently in Barcelona, Spain with the Arizona Olympic Development program (ODP) playing in high level matches – well done Mark! We are all very proud of you! Our β€˜Path To Pro’ semi-professional team, Sporting Arizona, played two competitive friendly matches this past weekend (against PSG Honduras and Olympians) – it was a great opportunity for the players to exhibit their high level of skill and experience against excellent opposition. Congratulations to all our S48 FC teams for their exceptional efforts this weekend.
