The S48 2015 Boys Black team participated in the Yavapai tournament in Prescott this past weekend. Playing in the ‘A’ Level bracket, the team won two matches – Coach Rosie Mendez is delighted by the commitment and fighting spirit displayed by the team throughout the tournament – well done S48 FC 2015 Boys Black team! The S48 FC 2007 Boys Black team traveled to Nevada to compete in the Las Vegas Cup in their first out of state tournament. They defeated a top 10 team from Nevada their 1st match, battling back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to win 3-1. Their 2nd match saw them compete against a very physical team from Texas. The boys, according to Coach Matt Marek, were “relentless” in their performance and emerged with a hard fought and impressive 5-1 victory, which saw them progress to the semi-finals, where they lost to a high quality opponent from California. Coach Marek commented that the lads gave everything they had and that he was proud of the performance not only for the weekend, but also for how far they have come as a group. “We are a family. These boys have built more than a team together – they have created a brotherhood. They stick together no matter what, and they are an example of the culture we are building at State 48 FC.” State 48 FC would also like to recognize the outstanding academic performance of the following players from S48 FC 2013 Black team: Khristopher Aragon (Principal’s Pride Award), Liliana Rivera (Academic Honor Award) and Alexis Lugo (Excellence Award for Mathematics & Achievement Award). Coach Rogelio Aragon said: “I am extremely proud of our players for understanding the importance of academics, discipline and hard work both in the classroom and on the playing fields. Way to go!” Congratulations to all our S48 FC teams for their exceptional efforts this weekend!
