The State 48FC 2015 – 2016 Boys Black (Verrado) opened 2024 in excellent fashion, winning the CCV Champions Cup tournament. Coach Alessio Altomare remarked that the team showed great improvement and delivered many moments of high level, organized soccer. Domenic Johnson was the teamβs top scorer with 5 goals and 1 assist. Enzo Altomare showed consistency and skill playing in the center of the midfield, scoring in all three games and delivering the winning goal in the final game, which they won 2-1. A strong performance by the defense was led by Luis Diaz and Connor Candelario, while team captain Zayden Fultz played spectacularly in transition, providing energy, effort and showing a high level of technical ability. The State 48 FC 2016 Black team traveled to Tucson for the Fort Lowell Shootout tournament, where they finishing in 2nd place. Coach Ivan Moreno was very pleased with the teamβs performance over the course of the weekend, with Gio Posada, Mikayla Tan, Luca Valenzuela and Fabian Fajardo all playing very well. Mia Moreno scored 2 goals, team captain Guillermo Armenta was instrumental with his strong effort and Javi Oropeza was the tournament βMost Outstanding Playerβ. The State 48 FC 2012 – 2013 Girls Black team won a close 3-2 contest in league play. Coach Donovan Graydon commented βit was a great performance overall by everyone on the team, but the βPlayer of the Matchβ award goes to Ailynn Salazar Arriga, who created many opportunities for herself and others, registered an assist and left everything on the field.” Yulitza Munoz scored 2 goals, Brookleigh Giesker scored 1 goal, and goalkeeper Kaycee Rodriguez Barriga was outstanding in the net. The State 48 FC 2013 Boys White team were also victorious in league play as they won the match 3-1. Maximus Munoz scored 2 goals and Kolten Brannon scored 1 goal. Goalkeeper Diego Vasquez saved a penalty kick to help preserve the victory as well. The State 48 FC 2015 Girls Black team (Verrado) played in the CCV Champions Cup tournament over the weekend, with Coach Aspyn Atwood commenting that the team played very well. Outstanding performances were turned in by Jade Balderrama, who scored 1 goal in her first appearance for the team; Sophia Croghan was fantastic throughout the tournament with her aggressive play and control of the midfield, while Audrey Sando was the βPlayer of the Tournamentβ, scoring 4 goals and performing at a high level at both ends of the field. The State 48 FC 2015 Black team also played in the CCV Champions Cup tournament, playing in the Gold Bracket. Coach Cory Stangle was proud of the entire teamβs performance against high level competition, and singled out goalkeeper Jacob Bolanos, who made a number of amazing saves; Danny Stangle, who had a great free kick goal; Sophia Lopez, whoβs defensive play was excellent and Iucef Velasquez, who continues to grow in confidence and show his quality.
