Coach Anthony Sagahun said “The State 48 FC 2018 White (Avondale) team delivered a dominant, undefeated performance this weekend in winning the Max Shacknai Tournament Championship (2018 Gold Bracket). We won our first two matches with identical scores of 3-0, with disciplined and resilient performances in each match. In our final match, we delivered an explosive performance, winning 10-1 in dominant fashion. The team’s success was defined by exceptional creativity and technical growth. Players demonstrated ball control, field awareness (scanning), creating space and the physical strength necessary to control the games. I am extremely proud of our progress and commitment as a team.”
The State 48 FC 2007 2008 Boys Black (North) team were Finalists in the Max Shacknai Tournament. The team won their first three matches against some very strong opposition and played for the championship on Sunday, where the game was decided only after it went to penalty kicks – thirteen rounds, to be exact. The team was outstanding throughout the weekend, putting in high quality performances in every match. Goals from Ryan Beck (2), Alex Bess (2), Antonio Roque (2), while Danny Castillo, Nathan Faulconer and Angel Pacheco scored 1 goal each – an impressive 10 goals for and only 1 against for the tournament. The tournament Most Outstanding Player award goes to team captain and defensive stalwart Jace Barlow, who was magnificent in every match.
Coach Alessio Altomare said “The State 48 FC 2015 Elite team made it to the Finals of the U12 Silver bracket of the Max Shacknai Tournament. The team played beautiful soccer, winning our bracket and then dominating the semifinal. It was a great challenge (playing up one or even two age groups for some) and, in our second ever U12 tournament, we are very satisfied with the performances and most importantly with the mentality that these players displayed. Special mention for our tournament MVP, team captain Luis Diaz, who showed leadership, competitiveness and great maturity against older players. Coach is very proud!”
Coach Rogelio Aragon said “The State 48 FC 2013 Black (Avondale) team had a tough, gritty performance in their League game. Alex Trejo scored the game winning goal with 3 minutes left with an impressive shot from just inside the box – this timely finish keeps us undefeated in League play. This game was won because of the outstanding team defense we displayed – we locked it down and kept a shutout. We are extremely proud of the team’s growth and continued improvement.”
Coach Donovan Graydon said “The State 48 FC 2015 / 2016 Black (Laveen) team played an amazing game on Saturday, winning 5-0 against a strong opponent. The team was led by captain Hugo Walker, who was everywhere on the field. He did a tremendous job of picking up his head and finding open spaces on the field in addition to setting up his teammates for many goal scoring opportunities. Enzo Juarez, Jackson Sanchez, Angel De La Rosa, Christian Hernandez, Angel Cano and Levi Gualajara also turned in fine performances. Super proud of the effort the team gave!”
Coach Rudy Urquiza said “The State 48 FC 2016 White (Avondale) team played an Arizona Academy League match and won by the score of 4-1. Our captain of the day, Leo Marroquin-Mendoza, had an excellent game! He dictated the game by providing key passes in the center of the midfield, winning the ball back and scoring a great goal on a volley. Very proud of this group!”
Coach Rogelio Aragon said “The State 48 FC 2017 Boys White (Avondale) team played two matches this weekend, drawing the first match 4-4 and winning the second match 4-1. In both games, the team showed great passing, moving and outstanding execution in front of goal. I am extremely proud of our team for their effort, hustle and resilience. They always find a way to push through it all under any circumstance. A total team effort – looking forward to many more battles like this!”
Coach Moises Perez said “The State 48 FC 2015 Copper (Avondale) team played a league match where the team showed strength and courage! The level of play was quite high – good passing, good movement and helping each other. throughout the game. Our key players were AJ Nava and Jasiah Roman, who turned in excellent performances. Very proud of how hard the team fights in every game!”
State 48 FC would like to recognize and congratulate two of our 2011 Boys Black (Avondale) team players, Scott Nguyen and Elliot Denk of Trivium Prep HS, who were crowned 2A State Champions this past weekend. Amazing accomplishment for the boys!
