State 48 FC Weekly Update – 11/16

There were a large number of State 48 FC teams competing over the weekend, with many outstanding performances and results. The S48 FC 2006 Girls Black team won the ‘Kick for the Cure’ Tournament Championship in tremendous style, scoring 16 goals and conceding none. Coach Franciso Martinez said that the entire team was fantastic, with goalkeeper Aydelin Morales singled out for her fabulous play. Coach Eddie Vasquez reported that the S48 FC 2013 Boys White team won the ‘Kick for the Cure’ Tournament Championship as well, playing up a year in a higher division – great job Coach Francisco and Coach Eddie! The S48 FC 2015/2016 Black (Verrado) team were ‘Kick for the Cure’ Tournament Championship finalists, finishing top of their bracket and winning the semi-final match before losing in the championship. Coach Alessio Altomare was proud of the entire team, and highlighted the performances of goalkeeper James Kenney, Enzo Altomare (who scored in all four games, totaling 5 goals) and Zayden Fultz, who was the standout player on the weekend. The S48 FC 2014 Black team were also Championship finalists in the ‘Kick for the Cure’ Tournament, finishing with 10 goals scored and only 2 conceded. Coach Alex Aguilar noted that the entire team was phenomenal, and that Aiden Fuentes-Grageda and William Hendershot were the exceptional performers. Coach Matt Marek’s S48 FC 2007 Boys Black team and his 2008 Boys Black team also played in the ‘Kick for the Cure’ Tournament – the 2007 team took 2nd place, winning 2 games and losing 1. Coach Marek said that Ferdi Aoci and Elias Curiel stood out this weekend for their numerous goals and assists in the tournament. The 2008 Boys Black team recorded 2 victories and 1 draw, but did not advance due to goal differential. Coach Marek felt that the team played some of its best soccer all year, with special mention going to Ryan Beck for his strong play in the midfield, CJ Arenas for his outstanding defensive play and Jaxon Walker for his incredible versatility. The S48 FC 2015 Girls Black (Verrado) team, with a strong showing, finished in 3rd place in the ‘Kick for the Cure’ Tournament also. The S48 FC 2008 Boys Black (North) team played in the Arizona Select Clubs Showcase in Tucson and performed very well, winning their bracket against top level EA teams. The team finished in 3rd place after losing in the semi-finals, with Chris Simon, Kaiden Zic, Mark de Leon, Jace Barlow and Trevor Scriven all on the scoresheet. The S48 FC 2016 (Verrado) team won all three matches it played (6-3, 4-0 & 2-1), with coach Saul Bolanos saying his entire team was ‘amazing’. Coach Rogelio Aragon was very proud of his S48 FC 2013 Boys Black team for their dominating performance over the weekend, with special recognition going to goalkeeper Carlos Medina (who made a number of great saves) and defender Angel Barajas. Congratulations and well done to all of our State 48 FC coaches and teams for their efforts!
